Automotive battery manufacturer Clarios International signed an agreement to supply automotive, heavy duty and OPTIMA batteries for NAPA Auto Parts stores.
Beginning June 1, Glendale-based Clarios will supply the batteries to NAPA Distribution Centers under a long-term agreement with Genuine Parts Company (NYSE: GPC) of Atlanta.
The automotive parts group of Genuine Parts Company says it’s the largest global automotive parts network, distributing automotive parts, accessories and service items in North America, Europe and Australasia, according to the parent company’s Form 10-K annual report. In North America, the group sells parts primarily under the National Automotive Parts Association (NAPA) brand name through distribution centers and NAPA Auto Parts stores.
“The recent global supply chain issues have adversely affected many product categories in our industry, including batteries,” Danny Huffaker, vice president commercial products, NAPA Auto Parts, said in a press release. “As we work to diversify our supply base and develop new strategic partnerships, we are excited to add Clarios, the largest-single supplier of automotive batteries in the United States to our team.”
Clarios said approximately 80% of its unit volume for the 2020 fiscal year was generated through the replacement-battery aftermarket, according to an SEC filing.
“We are honored to receive this business from NAPA Auto Parts and look forward to a long-standing relationship,” said Jim Gracyalny, vice president of aftermarket for Clarios.
Clarios is a subsidiary of Brookfield Business Partners. It was formerly the Power Solutions business of Johnson Controls.
