Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently in intensive care at St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where he is being treated for coronavirus. Mr Johnson, 55, was admitted to St Thomas’ Hospital on Sunday evening with a persistent high temperature and cough and was rushed to intensive care on Monday where he has since spent three nights receiving treatment.
Ministers have said he has been sitting up in bed and talking to medical staff.
Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab gave an update on Mr Johnson’s condition at a news conference in Downing Street.
Mr Raab, who has been asked to deputise for the Prime Minister said: “He’s still in intensive care but he continues to make positive steps forward and he’s in good spirits.”
Earlier on Thursday, a spokesman for the prime minister said Mr Johnson had received oxygen support but was not put on a ventilator.

The politician lost 12lbs in two weeks before Christmas 2018 and told The Spectator at the time he was aiming to lose weight.

Mr Johnson, 54, said he had stopped “late-night binges of chorizo and cheese”, as well as giving up alcohol.
The privately educated politician explained his new diet plan.
He wrote: “I breakfast like some Georgian hermit on porridge with a luxury sprinkling of nuts.

“At drinks parties, I guzzle water and marvel at the Pinteresque slowness with which we come to the point.
“Is it working? You bet it is. My sight is keener, the days seem longer and more full of interest, and I have lost 12 pounds in two weeks.”
Many have contributed the former London Mayor’s weight loss to his relationship with Carrie Symonds, 31.

The predicted birth date of their baby suggests he or she was conceived in autumn.
This was around the same time the October 31 Brexit deadline was extended.
Mr Johnson and Ms Symonds had been living apart following his coronavirus diagnosis.
Ms Symonds, 31, revealed on Twitter she had experienced coronavirus symptoms but had not been tested for the virus writing: “I’ve spent the past week in bed with the main symptoms of coronavirus.
“I haven’t needed to be tested and, after seven days of rest, I feel stronger and I’m on the mend.”
In a second post, Ms Symonds posted a link to the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) advice page for pregnant women.
She said: “Being pregnant with Covid-19 is obviously worrying. To other pregnant women, please do read and follow the most up to date guidance which I found to be v reassuring.”
